Temporomandibular Joint Disorder

About a week ago - I yawned too wide and ended up with TJD
My jaw still won't fully open up without a lot of pain
I went to my GP who told me that jaws were not his thing and to go to the dentist !!
Should I go to the dentist or will it sort itself out ?
How long should I give it ?

You haven't got TJD just from one event.

TJD is an ongoing disorder. You've just damaged your jaw with one incident.

The best person to go and see about it is indeed a dentist, and me advising you on here is against the rules.

You may decide to see if it sorts itself out, or you might decide to go and get advice. You know how bad it is, and how well it seems to be settling down by itself, I don't.

If you sprained your ankle, at what stage would you go to a Dr or hospital to check if it was something more severe, and whether it should be seen to?

Apply that to your jaw, and decide if you should go and be seen.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.
