Hi all,
I am thinking using cv writting service to improve my cv and hopefully get a job. As I haven't used such service before i guess there are few questions:
1. Is it worth spending the money on it and can you share your experience?
2. Can you recommed a good cv writting service provider?
Thanks in advance

Have you looked at the careers service website? There's tools on there to put together a CV, and I believe you can also book an appointment with an adviser. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I bought this years ago

Its a great book.
CV writing service is for very very high level jobs if anything and most do no more than you would have done. I wouldnt recommend it.0 -

Before going down the route of paying for a CV writing service I would sugest that you try writing your DV and asking friends or family to critique it for you. If you know anyone who has a role in intereviewing or selecting candidates at their place of work they may be able to help you.
Check for local careers services.
Even the bests service is only going to be able to work with the information etc you priovide, and if you do the work to provide them with enough to make a good CV then you've done 90% of work any way.
Do use spell chck and get a friend to proof read the CV after it has been spell checked to catch any typos or errors. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -
My last few CVs have been written by a professional, Sarah Lovell.
The first time I approached Sarah, it was because my CV was on a recruiter website and a company had spammed me with a free review of it. I wanted a second opinion. Her free second opinion made me decide to go forward and have her do a professional version.
What Sarah does is ask me details of what needs updating, what role I would like including sending her any job adverts of interest. She then tailors my CV to the role, emphasising relevant experiences.
So for example, two jobs I've done previously are critical to my current job search and emphasis is placed on them so someone just glancing through wouldn't notice that the duration of both comes to the same as the other jobs on my CV combined.
During my job searches since I've used Sarah's services, I do feel my CV has helped enormously. Whether it is an actual help or just a confidence boost is up for debate. The only evidence I have, if it can classed as such, is that my CV is available online as several recruitment websites and not a day goes by without me hearing from one recruitment agency or another.
So yes, I am a convert but will add the caveat that what works for me doesn't mean it will work for someone else.0 -

Guess the steer is not to use such services, just do your own research.0 -
When there are so many free resources on the internet and elsewhere, I do not see much point in paying for a CV writing service. Microsoft Word offers a couple of different template styles that you just need to enter your details on and most of the job search websites offer tips on how to write/improve your CV. In your post you say "will hopefully get a job" so I am assuming you are currently unemployed. The jobcentre may be able to provide guidance or run CV workshops, but it depends on the area you are in.
Our office sees thousands of CVs each week, we don't look at format of the CVs, we look at the content - do you have the qualifications needed for the job, and do you have relevant, recent experience? Of course it helps if it is laid out in such a way to find this information quickly, like using headings for the sections or highlighting it in a brief cover letter.
If you do decide to use a CV service, ask the following
What format do they provide a CV in? if it is a PDF format, it usually cannot be changed or updated, meaning you either have to start from scratch or go back to them to update and possibly be charged another fee. Ideally you want to receive an electronic version in Microsoft Word, so you can update it yourself and also tailor it to each job you apply for.Mortgage = [STRIKE]£113,495 (May 2009)[/STRIKE] £67462.74 Jun 20190 -

That depends on whether an emoticon is regarded as part of the sentence, and if it is whether it's upper or lower case. If only Fowler was still alive to give us a ruling .0
