Job hunting / off sick on pay

Can you job hunt and make applications while off sick on full pay from work? I know that you can physically do it, but is there any unwritten rule in relation to it? I am off sick as I am unable to perform a crucial part of my current job, but am able to work in most other posts.
Any comments appreciated x

There aren't any rules about applying for jobs when you're working or when you're off sick. As has been said, you need to be careful about reference requests. State on application that no references should be requested without your express permission.

Aren't there any alternative roles that you could be undertaking with your present employer instead of staying off work? Admin stuff or whatever?

Surely if you are feeling well enough and capable of job hunting then you could be at work if your employer has alternative duties... that way, you can job hunt without the guilt and worry.
