Out of date chicken

Options
Hi all, quick bit of advice if you dont mind please - I bought some fresh, pre-packed chicken breasts from Tesco a few days ago and they have been in the fridge. Just realised today the best before date is 2nd October. I'm not planning on using them tonight but wondered if they would be ok put straight in the freezer? Or should I take them out of the packaging to see if they are ok first, wash them and then freeze them?

Sorry probably sounds like a stupid question! Note to self to check my dates in future!

Thank you x

Was on the news the other day advising not to wash poultry. Just open and smell and if ok freeze, you will know if it's off.
  • Thank you, I didn't see that about not washing chicken. Just had a sniff, it smells fine - I've bagged it up and popped it in the freezer.

    Thanks x

If chicken is a bit whiffy, it's normally the juice in the packet, not the chicken itself.

I know they say not to wash, mainly due to splashes, but stick it in a bowl with water and white vinegar and it will get rid of the whiff.

    Wash your hands well afterwards.
  • Thanks Sally, I'll remember that tip x
