O/S Daily Saturday 3rd October 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

I didn't feel too well last night so I went to bed early so I was up with the lark this morning. Max was very pleased to see me and he was even more pleased with his early breakfast :).

It looks like it's going to be another lovely day. I hope the girls will make the most of it before the wet weather comes next week. I know DD14 has to go and buy some school trousers as she has been told off for wearing the ones she has now as they are black jeans and she has to have trouser material instead. I did tell her when she bought them they were not appropriate but teenagers think they know best.

I am going to be pottering around the house today sorting out the never ending washing and drying. I am going to ask hubby to pull out the cooker so I can clean underneath it as it is pretty disgusting down there. Luckily I have a really good steam cleaner which just lifts up all the muck and leaves it squeaky clean.

Hubby is in charge of the cooking this evening so I don't know what we will be having. The shopping got delivered yesterday though so there is plenty of choice. I had a chicken curry ready meal last night for a change but I think it wasn't cooked properly or something as I was very unwell after eating it. Hubby had one as well but he was fine.

Well that's all from me, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them.

Now light here, but looks cloudy, dull and overcast - but several mornings have started off that way and then cleared to be a beautiful warm sunny day - so we'll see. I have a load of washing to put on the line so will do that shortly.

DH awake enjoying first cuppas of the day with me, I'm showered, had brekkie, and will shortly be getting ready for work.

Yesterday I was reasonably productive, I went to the SM, did shop, got home put shopping away, stripped our bed, washed bed linen and got on to the line, re-made our bed.

I decided to do some baking as I haven't been and it really seems to increase our shopping bill, and menfolk moan that there's nothing to eat in the house! So I made mince pies, jam tarts and a sponge, which I will turn into a jam and cream Victoria sponge. I made the pastry for the mince pies and jam tarts - pastry is always something that I'm not that good at, I can make a cake and cook reasonably well, but pastry is a bit hit and miss! DH and DS2 had to "test" a mince pie last night and said they were edible! lol

Last night I went out at 10pm to collect DS1, he'd been to the gym, round to friends for something to eat and a few drinks, so has left his car at their house and I collected him. He's got to go over to there's today to get his car back but they are going to the next town as he wants to buy some new jeans and a top - not ridiculously expensive but smart enough to go out in.

I'm going into work this morning - it'll be busy as it's the start of the month. Tomorrow we're out most of the day for a meeting and then eat with friends on the way home.

I rang the school regarding the problems DS2 had been having that were supposedly resolved just before the summer break and it was left that DS2 would get an apology from the teacher concerned - we waited over the 6 weeks holidays and nothing and now are several weeks into term and still nothing, got a call back from the Head of Languages who I'd spoken to at the time, and when I advised her that the Head of Community had rang me, done an investigation into the incident, and then rang me back to advise that my son was innocent and he'd be getting an apology - she stated yesterday that she didn't know anything about an investigation and that DS2 had been promised an apology! So someone is lying - I've now told them that they can only communicate with me by either written letter or email, so I can print out and have a hard copy of what they are saying as obviously I can't trust what they are saying! I completely at a loss - it beggars believe, I can't wait for him to be able to leave - the sooner the better in my opinion. I'm so disappointed that they just have such a blatant disregard after all the empty promises, disgusted doesn't come close.

    Have good Saturdays' everyone x

    Morning All

Dry but cloudy, the washing will go on the line anyway, no rain forecast but could do with a bit of a breeze.

Enjoyed my spaghetti and meatballs yesterday, my friend brought some chocolate brownies made with beetroot for afters, really nice, just a hint of earthiness.

Going to Glasgow to meet a friend for breakfast and do a bit of shopping for that event in December and I need to get some bits and bobs for my trip next week - just realised I only have a week to get organised!

More friends coming for dinner later, I have a piece of smoked gammon in the fridge, I can freeze what we don't eat. Just need to buy some fresh veg and decide what to get for desert.

TA - Hope all went well yesterday.
    Judi - Hugs to you.
    Good news white-sage!

Hope you all have a good weekend, take care. XX

    Morning everyone.

It's grey here and yesterday was decidedly chilly indeed.

I woke up very early so lay in bed listening to some podcasts featuring the lovely Eddie Mair, his voice soothed me back to sleep.

Late in the afternoon the car dealer rang to say that 'my' car had just rolled up on the back of the transporter :j so I'm heading down to look it over and make the final decision. Then I'll come home via Helensburgh I think.

Yesterday was slightly a washout of a day, I mooched around most of it though I did clear out a huge amount of cardboard boxes and the bag of recyclable stuff and took them to the tip. Didn't even read our local paper online which I normally devour on a Friday.

Now I am energised so will get myself sorted.

I hope everyone has a good Saturday.
  • Good morning,

Thank you nmic for starting us off and I am so sorry the school saga is still ongoing, I think you are right to keep copies.

I made two GF Somerset apple cakes yesterday, one for a friend and one for us, and it is delicious. I normally don't have much success with GF flour, but this was a recipe out of Gluten Free magazine and I am so pleased with it.

Off to the hairdressers at 9 for a trim and I always have to have it thinned out as well. It will be a relief when that is done.

Nothing much planned for the rest of the day. DGD1 is taking DGD2 to Birmingham to do some clothes shopping so hopefully they will have fun and lots of giggles.

If the weather is brighter when I come back from the hairdressers I will strip our bed and wash the linen.

TA I hope things went well yesterday and not too traumatic.

    Have a good day all

    Morning :hello:

Meant to post yesterday but didn't manage to, so I'm a bit behind with your news.

That's fab news JackieO Congratulations :T

TravellingAbuela I hope it went well yesterday xx

candlelight Scampi was confined to the kitchen – not easy when there's no kitchen door, lol. I put a piece of hardboard across the doorway, he spent half his time standing up to it so he could watch them coming and going :D If the blokes had to traipse through the kitchen to the garden to mix plaster, etc. then we went in the lounge. I had to put his lead on and tie it to the kitchen table at one point, it was only for an hour but I didn't like doing that. Most of the time I stayed nearby so he didn't feel abandoned :D I think he's relieved it's all over, he can potter about freely again and his bed is back in it's normal place. He was really good considering, but he's been much more relaxed the last couple of days.

donny-gal Scampi is still a nightmare on the lead, he yanked me hard the other week and set my sciatica off again. It was so painful I cried when I got home. Mr tru won't stick to the behaviourist's rules and until he does and Scampi has learned, I won't be walking him. He's great at home with me, doesn't listen to mr tru much though. I'd take over all the walks, but for the first week or two he'll be pulling hard, my leg will be painful and I'll have to stop again. Don't know what to do about it really.

The leak in the shower is fixed. We were dusty again yesterday – master tru was going to tidy up around the window in the bathroom, using bonding something. He decided at the last minute to plaster it, I was complaining that my untidy arrangement of mis-matched shelves had to be moved back out when they were only in place for a day, lol. The room is tiny - when the bath was in, the sink wouldn't fit directly under the window. It doesn't bother me but it irritates the others, lol. So we'll probably shift it over a couple of inches, it's all flexi pipes so no plumbing work thankfully.

It's very misty this morning, I love it :D The house feels so cosy. Today I'll be enjoying the peace and quiet, playing fetch with Scamps, crocheting and generally pottering about.

  • Good Morning everyone, lovely here again today but for the first time this autumn I felt a coldness coming off the lounge windows when I pulled the curtains back this morning. We started misty but now it's sunshine and blue sky. He Who Knows is walking Cookie and I've just finished downstairs and had a sort out in the fridge, there's always something I've missed lurking at the back of a shelf and it's good to go through once in a while and find what needs using up. Had a lovely skype with DD2 and Zebra yesterday he's had a haircut and looks like a toddler now, all the baby fluffiness has gone, so sad!

We hope to take advantage of this weather some time today and perhaps pop out somewhere but I need to be back in time to Cookie walk myself this afternoon, I'm enjoying that so very much and bless her, she's started to nudge my leg in the same way that Docky did and look up with a smile and share the odd doggie joke with me, it's lovely. I saw a friend I'd not seen since we lost him when I was on my way home yesterday and had to tell her, last time she saw him she burst into tears at his tumour, it was hard to get the words out but she'd guessed when she'd not seen us out and about so not quite so difficult for either of us to say he's gone.

Have yourselves a nice day, in fact have a nice weekend and have sunshine memories for the rainy days we're getting next week. Lyn xxx

TA hope you both weathered all the trials of yesterday and had a decent nights sleep in your hotel xxx.
  • Morning, ((((((((((hugs))))))))))if you need one.

The washing machine is empty and sitting in the garden. Ordered my new one last night, delivery Tuesday, by which time I will have a huge load to wash including bedding. I ordered it from AO via Quidco, so will get a bit back. Have also arranged for them to fit it and dispose of the other one. I looked at the Hotpoint, but in the end went with a slightly cheaper Indesit, which is made by the same company. I just hope I can sort out a shorter washing time for some of the programmes!!

Dull this morning, hope the mist burns off. Have to try and get the washing that was in the machine dry. We also have 200 bulbs I want to get in the back.

    Morning all,

Damp and very misty this morning. I'm deliberating as to whether I should peg out the washing or put it on the airer. Off to do an Aldi shop shortly.

Had a busy couple of days. DD came down, got her dress altered etc. It just seemed like I was constantly in and out!

DH off to footy this afternoon so I get to watch things on catch up and we are going to a quiz tonight with DS2, his GF and my dad. I enjoy the actual quizzes, it's just that they seem to drag out the interval!

Hope you all have a lovely day :)

    Morning all,

a quick visit from me today. I am showered and almost ready to head out of the door as i'm going with hubby today. He's got to see a man about a job in Oxford and wants me to go with him. Not taking the dogs but am leaving them in 'Youngests' capable hands.

Mom was in a rotten mood when i saw her last night. Wailing, crying, destructive.... chucking stuff everywhere. I just walked out in the end and came home early. There was no pleasing her. I'd like to think it was the dementia but it seemed just like a childish tantrum. She even got in a strop that she couldnt pour her drink onto the floor due to the type of beaker they had given her.

    Onwards and forwards,

    have a great day all.
