Personally I would leave it as it is, particularly because of the timing. A standing order set up for 1 January surely won't go through until Monday 5 January so you'd need to set it up for earlier than that and I think there's too much risk of things going wrong, and you being unable to contact anyone at the Woolwich. Plus, wouldn't you be likely to spend the extra money on stuff you don't really need?

I have decided to leave it since, as you say, too much can go wrong.

And I would DEFINITELY have spent it on something I don't need :beer:

.....honestly, it would have gone on a new sofa.......but we still have the funds for that so no biggie really.

Thanks for the replies all...have a great xmas!

If you want to pay £500 on Jan 1, 10, you can. You will just have to pay £450 in December. Or later in January. Otherwise, you will be in arrears for December from the off!

DOI: Woolwich mortgage. Just changed from DD to standing order because I wanted to keep overpaying and my payment went down by £700 in November to make up for the year of reducing interest rates.

Or you could have just asked them to set the DD value back up to whatever you were overpaying at before.

They did that with mine without question or complaint.

It did mean that for one month it dropped to the "new" payment value but i overpaid the difference as a one off.

alleycat, aye. But I like having control and couldn't be bothered ringing them to reset it. More control this way. I'm a bit of a control freak in some ways and this DD was seriously freaking me out! I know, I know, it's sad.

  • I set up a standing order to pay on the 1st of the month as I didn't want to wait until the DD could be taken on the 16th.

Don't trust what Woolwich tell you on the phone, get everything in writing, and then keep it. My complaint about Woolwich's mis-management of my mortgage is with the FOS. Woolwich have been so horrendous, I've moved lender even though I was on a base rate plus 0.18% tracker - it wasn't worth the grief and stress it caused dealing with them. My sanity is worth more.
