Help: Halifax not sent funds and meant to complete on monday

My solicitor hasn't exchanged today because my mortgage funds from the Halifax haven't come through for Monday , my broker said my solicitor informed his office completion was Tuesday , but my solicitors is still aiming for Monday despite the funds showing up. Surely my solicitor wouldn't be so incompetent as to get the date wrong , my broker said Halifax send funds the day before completion, please someone put my mind at rest

  • It sounds like your solicitors have asked for the money on the wrong day.

If it arrives in their account early enough on Monday then completion is still very much possible.

Yet another reason why you should leave a bit more time between exchange and completion... lots of things (like sending money) have to happen during this period, and you should leave a bit of time for things to go wrong.

Yes we had agreed with ours the 12th but others in chain pushing for sooner , surely the solicitor couldn't have got it wrong ? That would be really incompetent

You shouldn't need mortgage funds to exchange. You only pay the deposit, which normally comes from your own funds. If you are in a chain your buyer's deposit is used as part payment.

The mortgage funds are only normally received on completion day.

It shouldn't be a big deal.

Halifax can send the money by CHAPS if necessary.

Even back in the olden days, a solicitor could collect a completion cheque from a local branch, so a completion could take place at short notice

Yeah that what I thought , unless they know they've messed up and are just covering themselves

Do you think if there was a problem eg they'd changed their mind , I would know about it by now ?

  • Ask your solicitor! Anything that anyone on here says would be pure guesswork.
