Value property before granting re-mortgage

I recently applied for a re-mortgage with our existing lender. We sent in papers showing our income and they have been accepted. We were then told their would be a Valuation fee, once that has been received they will come and do a drive-by to check our property. If that is accepted we will get the re-mortgage.
Now they said the valuation of our property is basically someone driving by our house and looking at the outside of our property, not inside at all.
I'm sort of bricking it. The outside is the worst of the whole house. The paint on the bricks around the windows is flaking and we are the only only one on the street who still got wooden window (we have been accepted a grant from the council to get new windows for 10% of the cost, but we are still waiting for a date)
When I applied for the re-mortgage and was told about the valuation fee I didn't think much of it. I thought they might get their info through sites like http://www.houseprices.co.uk.
I'm only taking our mortgage up to 80,000 and the houses on our street has in the last year sold for 100,000 - 110,000.
Does anyone here know how serious this Valuation is? Do I stand a chance?
They said they will do it on Thursday. I don't have the money to quickly slap some paint on or put some nice plants outside and I really need the re-mortgage.....

Re your wooden windows: I would keep them if I were you - they are becoming a rarity. So many are now replaced with upvc plastic ones which lack character, go yellow in time & are expensive.
Wood can easily be repaired & painted with the colour of your choice.0
