I wondered about this too. I also wondered about the job; what it is and why the OP is so keen on it. I can see why having trained long and hard to get it, you wouldn't be too keen to jack it in at the prospect of a bit of trouble, but the fact that they say it's a vocation does ring some bells as it may be blinding them to the harsh economic reality that the income it provides is insufficient to live on.
Ultimately then it's a lifestyle choice: if the job is a vocation, then they will have to accept that it means a frugal, if not precarious financial existence. If that prospect is too scary, or downright unacceptable, the OP may have to give up on this vocation, as the dream is incompatible with economic reality.0
