Changing from Deemed Export to Metered Export

Hi

Back in June I was upgraded to a smart meter by OVO. At the time I asked if there would be any impact on my FIT/solar and was told no, so I went ahead.

When I submitted my quarterly reading this week I had an email back from OVO (who also do my FIT payments) saying that now I have a smart meter I have to switch to metered payments from deemed payments for the export element.

Is that right? If I had known this, I would not have rushed into the smart meter upgrade as I'm pretty sure I'm going to lose out on this.

Thanks

Pretty sure it is (or at least that it is the OVO policy). ISTR a recent thread here on same subject.

Did they tell you in writing (or maybe by email) that it wouldn't have any impact ? If you can produce that evidence you can probably take some sort of action for being mislead. If it was just a telephone conversation, you might be able to ask them for a copy of any recording that was made and then carry on just as if it was in writing but without some sort of proof I guess you're stuffed.

But no reason at all why you shouldn't ask them to remove the smart meter and reinstate a dumb one. Or just change electricity suppliers and look surprised when new one tells you they can't access the OVO meter and will have to change it - at which point you reluctantly agree providing it's a dumb one so that you don't have to go through the same performance next time you change.

Thanks both - I obviously wasn't searching for the right terms when I tried looking for a discussion on this!
