Cancelling a DD

I am taking out a DMP with stepchange. On my list of what to do it says to cancel any direct debits. I have a personal loan with lloyds and have just rang them to cancel but they said they couldn't do it as I need to have a dd set up if I have a loan with them....I said I was going to be setting up a DMP and they wanted to put me through to someone who wanted to go over my income and was told it could take about 30 minutes.
What do I do? How can I cancel it if they won't let me? Will they continue to take the payments? I won't be able to afford this, I have an overdraft with them that I have managed to not use....I don't want them to go into that as it will just rack up my debt even more

Do you have online banking? There is usually an option on there to cancel DD's x0

I rang them back as stepchange advised that they must let you cancel. I was told it couldn't be done as my account is switching
I made a new account today....should have waited untill I cancelled the DD I guess.
Hopefully that's the only reason why, and next week I can cancel it.0
