Back in 1996 / 1997 I took out a loan and a mortgage but have no idea idea about account numbers etc. I think the loan was with Yorkshire Bank. The mortgage was with either Yorkshire Bank or Halifax (it was taken out with one and switched to the other but I can't remember which came first)
Is there any point in even thinking about claiming ?

You cant remember the lenders.
You cant remember the insurers.
You cant even remember if you had it or not.
So, what exactly would you be complaining about?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. I'm in a similar quandary. I had a number of credit cards around the same time as dizzylizzy55, and I am certain some had PPI, but have no account details.
Worried that I will send out SAR letters with the £10 cheque for information from six or seven companies and just end up £60-70 out of pocket with a load of replies saying "sorry, we can't find any records".Comp wins 2015: England rugby shirt
Comp wins 2014: Bottle of salad cream
Comp wins 2013: Paramore tickets @ Wembley Arena0 -

It is also possible that they will reply that they did not sell you any PPI.0 -

You could send a SAR to both lenders and see what it produces. If you have any other accounts with them that are active or in use up to six years ago, the business may still have data on you. Phone their customer services and ask them to search with your full name, DOB, any other previous surnames and addresses.
I managed to get hold of records from both of these lenders going back as far as 1984.0 -

Why do you think you were mis-sold ? or are you just on a fishing trip ?0 -
the question was about CLAIMING not complaining !!!
claim is what you do when you suffer an insurable event. i.e. redundancy, illness etc. You put a claim in to the insurance company.
Complain is what you do when you believe your PPI is mis-sold.
The fact that CMCs have got involved and muddied the water does not turn a complaint into a claim. You will be making a complaint, giving reasons for your complaint. It will go to the complaints team. It is reported to the FCA on the complaints stats. If you disagree with the response to your complaint you can take it to the FOS who are the independent arbiter in complaints.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). OK. Thank you for the clarification ! Whatever it's called, I don't even know if I had PPI so initially I just want to find out if I did and then (if I did) do whatever needs to be done to recover it.0

There is nothing wrong with having PPI. Especially mortgage PPI (where most complaints fail). You cant just complain that you had it. You have to have a reason for it being mis-sold.
However, for starters, ask your lender or look at your bank statements (to see who the monthly direct debit was to).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
