About to apply for my mortgage, and just noticed that my employer has put my NI number down wrong so it's not correct on any of my payslips. They are going to amend going forward, but I'm terrified that this will cause a decline with the lender? I've asked my broker the question but he won't come back to me straight away, does anyone think this will be an issue?

Could be an issue with tax office and NI. Not sure about lender.I am not a cat (But my friend is)0

As alter ego suggests, in your shoes, I think my main concern would be whether your NI contributions have been correctly creditted to you - if the number is wrong, then chances are they've not been, and that could affect your eligibilty to certain benefits such as JSA if you lose your job and the amount of state pension you'll be entitled to further dwon the line.
You can apply for a copy of your NI record here
https://www.gov.uk/check-national-insurance-record
I suggest you check it and if it looks less than you think then take it up with HMRC to see whether you can get it corrected.0 -
Thanks both. Payroll are contacting HMRC to make them aware of the mistake and find out what this means in terms of my contributions. But in the immediate meantime I am more worried what this means for my mortgage application! We're going sub prime so I'm expecting them to rake over the details enough as it is, any red flags might give them an excuse to decline.0

What about a letter from payroll saying that NI number wrong is THEIR mistake?I am not a cat (But my friend is)0

Yes they have just offered that, which I'm going to check is okay with my broker.
I'm just so worried that any oddity will spook the lender!0
