After a recent blood test my doctor referred me to the nurse at the surgery for dietary advice as my cholesterol is higher than normal.
I went to see the nurse this morning hoping to come away with some good advice but it was a waste of time. All she did was print something off the internet which I could do myself. When I asked her what foods are good to eat she just said I need to look at the ingredients. I asked her about ready meals and she said some are ok and to look at the ingredients. I'm now none the wiser.
I live alone, work full time, often get home late. I have an oven, microwave, slow cooker and a small George Foreman grill. I also like eating out socially.
I'd like a good meal plan but don't know where to start. I have a sweet tooth and don't want to give up nice foods altogether or I'll be miserable.
Any tips anyone?

My cholesterol is high too. I was ordered to see the practice nurse and was given a booklet about diet. It seemed rather out of date to me.
I have porridge or overnight oats for breakfast as oats are supposed to lower cholesterol. Oily fish is good too.Try googling "foods to lower cholesterol". There are some good recipes in Hugh F-Ws book " Light and Easy"-he claims to have reduced his cholesterol level by diet so it might be worth seeing if you can get the book out of the library or check online for the recipes. There are recipes for cakes and puddings.
Did the doctor check your thyroid levels? An under active thyroid can cause raised cholesterol0 -
Cholesterol is produced by the body in response to fat.
You've got to reduce your saturated fat consumption and watch your carbohydrate consumption as well.
Light vegetable oils, reduce the amount of fried food and red meat.
