If you are swopping suppliers etc then don't forget to go through Quidco (www.quidco.com) and get some cash back !

I started switching everything off at the wall incl microwave and knocked a third off my quarterly bill.

    Good luck

Good to hear you're full of motivation Lellylion, a couple of little changes here and there soon mount up to a big different (from little acorns etc etc...).

Keep everyone up to date on your progress ;)
  • Hi,

According to my figures you have £110.81 per week to spend on food and anything else. I suggest you write this amount in a little note book on a Monday (a spending diary) and keep a note of what you spend/withdraw by subtraction. I have included a figure of £50 per month od payoff so ignore your balance; go by your book. Stop using CCs for anymore purchases and make fixed repayments to the CCs using SOs not DDs.

    Good luck, the figures;

With the shopping planning I found doing an online shop with tescos helpful to see the approx cost of my shopping and then emptied the basket before checking out and went to store to do it - Last week I was only a couple of pounds out (lower) than predicted too - alternatively if you're finding it hard to stick to a list then online shopping might help.

Thank the Lord for that ~ I thought I was the only nutter in here ;):p;)

I also like to make it my personal quest to come in lower than the *virtual* shop and another favourite is to *virtual* shop at Asda and real shop at Morrisons ~ just to see the difference!!

Do I need to get out more? :o:o

No not just you :o:o Did it for the 1st time last week - did tescos and sainsburys just to see the difference mainly for OH's benefit  thought it was good to focus myself. Today spent about 50p less than I'd got from going on tescos website yesterday - now time to play with it as i do my list to try and get the costs down :money:
    Initial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000
Initial Mortgage free date - January 2058
    Mortgage as of 1st February 2024 - £159,134.98
    Overpayments to date - £79.62
Current Mortgage free date - January 2058

My *new* idea is to do a monthly shop for £100ish and then spend no maore than £25 per week on the weekly - I have already *virtually* shopped and come out at £102 so I might try it next week. As I have planned to freeze meat etc I should only really have to buy fresh fruit/veg, milk and bread - cant see how it wont work!!

Well I'm feeling very proud this morning.... Went home last night OH and I sat down and saved....

Changed utilities supplier - save £158 per year

Changed Broadband - Was free with Orange, but were paying £55 in Mobile accounts to make it free. We now get free with sky (we were already entitled to it free because of the package we have with them) and have reduced the tarriffs on the mobiles to the minimum (will go to PAYG once the contracts end)- Saved £25 per month

Changed bank account and no longer pay the account fee - Saved £14.50 per month

Cancelled Homeserve plumbing cover - We have home insurance which covers most of it - Saved £14.99 per month

Have also posted letters asking for interest to be frozen on credit cards - Not sure it will work, but have to try!!!

So in the hour last night researching, have already saved £67.65 per month.... NOT including the reduced shopping list, will let you know once we have shopped on Friday.

    :T Its a start

  • That's great -well done :T
And it becomes addictive I've found so keep up looking on here for more ways to save! I'm learning all the time!

Re the food shopping; I think your idea is good and it's a start. We are a family of three (just me DH and DS) and we spend about £80 a week on shopping and that includes the odd luxury (I can't give up my Dolce Gusto Coffee maker :rotfl:) so it is more than do-able.
Proud to be dealing with my debt!
