Hi
I have posted on here a number of times and you guys have been so helpful. My husband and I are biting the bullet and going to declare BR on thursday. I have one more question please-
We have set up a basic co op account and transfered all DD, STO etc into it. At present the account has approx £600 in it to cover outgoings. should we empty account before going to court on thurs or leave it in there?
probably bit of a silly question but am getting knickers into a major twist and am terrified of doing anything wrong or loosing any money as we have none to spare!!
Please tell me it will be ok and life will improve and the stress will ease!!!!!
Thanks in advance for your help.
Nic

HI Nic, firstly, deep breathe and calm down (says she who was sooo panicky last week it was silly!)
I, also had £600 in my basic account to cover essential outgoings. I had to have a quick chat with the OR after the BR order had been signed and they queried the amount, but when i told them what it was for they were fine.
Good luck for Thursday and let us know how it goes.

When your contacted by the OR office explain what you have done, they will allow for outgoings so shouldn't be a problem, BUT if the account is closed (which it probably won't be with it being a BASIC account) its soon solved by a quick phonecall to the OR to enable release of funds...they won't see you left with no money at all so try not to worry....just be as honest and open as you can with the OR & you'll have no probs....
Good luck with it all on thursday..you'll be fine & after its all done wonder what you scared yourself half to death for keep in touch & let us know how things go
**EDIT**BTLTN beat me to it again

Hi Nic,
If the money in the account is only enough to cover the direct debits that will be going out before your next salary / benefit payments are due then I would leave it where it is. You don't want to take the chance of there being insufficient funds in the account when payments are due. If there's going to be an excess of cash then draw it out; for basic living expenses of course.;)
Would you believe me if I said life will improve after Thursday? If the answer is "Yes" it most certainly will; if the answer is "No" then again it most certainly will.:D
Have faith; it's not an easy ride but things do get a lot better very quickly.:j

Hi nic, I don't think that you will have any problems with your Bank Account.
As already said, the OR will want to know about it, and you should explain what the money in the account is for. The ultimate decision, on whether the account is frozen or not, is with the bank, and the Co-op are pretty good.
The ONLY point on which I would differ from the other posters is that I WOULD actually withdraw any SPARE cash, i.e. money that you are planning to use for housekeeping, shopping etc., until AFTER your OR meeting. Of course, leave sufficient funds in the account for any DD/SO.
You can ALWAYS put the money back into the account once the OR has confirmed that he/she has no interest in the account.
Edit: Sorry, almost forgot to wish you well for next Thursday - hope it all goes well.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.

Please, please try not to worry too much. I went BR June 2007 and was discharged this January. The clerks at the court were lovely! They did our paperwork then sent us of for lunch and the judge signed our paperwork during his lunch break! Our OR was an angel, so nice and helpful. It has been tough, as it is for everyone that goes through this, but we came out the other side and have learnt by the experience. We are now finding our feet and using this site and talking to others has been an invaluable tool! Good luck, it will all be good;)0

Explain it to the OR and it will be fine, but make sure there is NO SURPLUS or the OR will take it
