Notice required for work change

Hi

If a company changes your rota without even speaking to you, is there any notice due when making changes? Afraid not been there long.

Not unless your hours are specified in your contract. Otherwise there is nothing in law.
  • No we don't have a contract, nothing written down so i was just wondering really.

I am the last to hear anything and that is what has happened today again, although this latest change affects me and I can't understand it.

Not said anything yet although I want to, fortunately manager is in a meeting!

Also get them to give you a contract.
    ally.
  • Seems the jokers are prepared to be quite lenient in the coming week as I only had to say I'd already made plans.

Thanks lovely people - a bit less red I'll get over it, least I've lost one late shift I suppose
and am no threat to the Supervisors who now have to cover.
  • The only requirement is the rota is comunicated to the staff otherwise how do they know to turn up.

If there is an issue with the communication of changes like they only stick it on a board and expect you to read it even if not in(day off holiday, sick) then that is something to raise.

Other things like having an option to say your availability makes the job of setting rota easier.

What is your verbal contract if nothing written?
  • To change our shifts at work they only have to give us 24hrs notice. Big union presence so assume that's legal and above board.

Thank you, it seems casual I really should have known better suppose they have got me on the business needs... I am probably not going to be in the role long so I'm trying not to let it get to me.

I gave my availability at interview, my flexibility then somehow got stretched to the max,
lots of late nights and constantly working all weekend when the rota was made to suit pretty much everyone else, then a supervisory role (even though I was never considered, don't get me wrong I'm thinking it is now for the best) become available and suddenly some of my shifts were up for negotiation.! (I was unaware until I walked in and got handed a new rota fortunately by the same colleague who had the courage to tell me payday had changed)

It isn't the worst place worked, the manager just seems scared and wants to avoid any confrontation although you're just negative if you express any opinion, that type, reckon I'm guaranteed a further 3 months if I behave!

Good thoughts are perhaps they have realised they don't want a woman walking around town late at night? (with the colder time of year coming and all) and perhaps the supervisors are paid more to work the less desirable shifts so now being assigned them? perhaps it's different earlier in the day - more interaction, that's all we can think of.
