A return on the renewable investment

Lots of good reasons to get a renewable energy system on the house but I am always a bit wary of the quotes for payback etc. Most topics in this area of the forum seem very good but general, technical or procedural.

From the purely financial aspect I am looking to tie down the benefits (and understand them or the costs!) a bit more so have posed a question within the Investment forum area. People with expertise in Solar etc. may also be able to help or be interested in the responses so here's a link for now, so as not to duplicate:
