Problems with Endowment Maturity

For the last 3 months I've been trying to get an old lender to confirm they have no interest in an endowment policy that is about to mature with the Pru. I seem to be stuck in a loop. I have no record of the original mortgage with Credit Agricole which was paid off in 1993. Pru want me to secure a letter from Birmingham Midshires who bought up the mortgage books at some point but BM won't provide it without the mortgage account number as they claim they have no record of me (I've provided all the addresses and postcodes that could possibly have been connected with the account). Pru are adamant that BM have a legal duty to provide the letter but are not able to provide any info regarding the original mortgage themselves. Has anyone come across this before - I can't be the only one but BM are totally intransient (and rude)

Given the age of the mortgage may well only have access to paper records. These may well be indexed by account number. So one can understand their apparent intransigence. Can you trace anything from the records kept at Land Registry in relation to the property. .0

yes. Loads of times. BM are being difficult. They only need to state in writing to Pru that they have no interest in the policy. As a society, they haven't required interest in policies for nearly 20 years. So, they dont need to identify the account. They can answer Pru with a generic "WE HAVE NO INTEREST IN THE ENDOWMENT POLICY" response.
As BM have refused, you should now raise a complaint.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only.
