Hi as you know I'm in the process of filling in the forms for BR, we have now opened up a joint account with Santander for all our direct debits, it's the basic account which doesn't even have a visa on the cash card. So my question is will the OR let us keep this account?
Thank you
Thank you

It is the banks not the OR who decide whether they keep your account open or not. The only 2 guaranteed BR friendly banks are the ones mentioned in post 2.:pB&SC No. 298

i.e. notsurewherenext, it's worth opening Co-op and/or Barclays accounts "just in case" anyway - as Co-op will NOT offer you a new account while you are ACTUALLY BR unless you set it up BEFORE.0

Also rather than joint accounts I would go for individual accounts.
If you go for the Co-op Casminder account then don't mention BR when opening the account. Just say you are want it to start a good budgeting regime.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
you should be ok, especially if it's a basic account with no overdraft facility tec, so there's no way of getting into difficulties-X-Missima-X-0

Santander are not known to be BR friendly (though there are some reports that this MAY be changing we haven't had it confirmed yet.) The only 2 accounts we know for definite that are BR friendly are the Co-op Cashminder and the Barclays Cash account as per this thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3582093BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
Hi
You might find this Insolvency Service leaflet useful as it talks about how bank accounts are affected in bankruptcy.
