One of my debts has recently been sold to CapQuest. I had been paying £5 per month and have not missed a single payment in more than a year, since I made the arrangement.
Out of courtesy, I called CapQuest because they asked me to in their letter. A young lady demanded £250 per month. I said I could only do that if I didn't pay anybody else and ate bread and water. She started her 'speech' about the importance of clearing the debt etc. She was obviously reading a prepared speech. I asked her to stop reading and just tell me what is the minimum amount they would accept. She got all bent out of shape and insisted she wasn't reading, then picked up right from where she left off. In frustration, I ended up agreeing to pay them £10 (she said that was the minimum).
She tried to make me give her my bank card details so 'I wouldn't have to remember to call every month'. I remembered someone's post about a DCA taking unauthorised money. I told her no way. I sent off my financial statement and received a letter on Fri 17 Aug with their bank details.
Bright and early on Mon 20 Aug a young man calls and asks why I haven't paid. I said I did on Sunday online via my bank. He insists I didn't because he can't see it. I told him it takes 3 working days. He insists that when I do the transaction he can see it on his end straight away. I took his name and, just to make sure, I called my bank to confirm that there was no way they would even know that I had sent it until they received it 3 days later.
Then I called back CapQuest and spoke to a lady who put me on to a manager. I made a complaint about the young man (used his full name). I told the manager that they should train their staff better and I didn't appreciate being spoken to like I am stupid, especially when I am honestly trying to pay off my debt.
What got me angry was the fact that their letter stated I had until the 25 Aug to make a payment and I have not missed a single payment in more than a year. Yet they are calling me a whole week earlier to bother me for it.
These DCAs should realise that if they treated people with respect they might get a little more cooperation. From now on they will get the RMA treatment - letters only.
By the way, RMA claim to be a phone only company, but since I wrote to them and copied my letter to their solicitors and Office of Fair Trading, they send me a computer generated letter almost every week asking me to call their offices for important info concerning my acct. I wrote back once to ask them to put their offer in writing. All I get back are the same old letters.
