i can't imagine why you want to buy her a 'grown up' present at age 8. what will there be left for her to look forward to in her teenage years?

the only Stretchkins toys i can find are approx £20 btw

What is it with hampers anyway? Just curious as I really don't get why anyone would want one.
Or is it just a fancy way of doing the pillowcase at the end of the bed with the bits and bobs in that Santa always used to leave?

    Xmas Saver!
my dd is 13 this yr, but at that age I would have got her something she asked for, I remember one year when the baby doll that swims - was the major I want present, the fun and games I had getting it, even went on train (1hr away) to get this doll, - got it home, she saw it when she was looking for something... then came down and said I hope that doll is not for me - its horrible.... luckly I put in the local paper sales and another eager parent was over the moon

I always remember as a kid I wanted frosty the snowman ice maker and the cadburys choc dispenser, that u put money in and get a choc out, my parents never got me them, (I was never without anything), I brought them for my daughter - one hit wonder - but I tried xxx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

Reading this forum it sometimes seems like there is an obsession with hampers round here. I don't really see the appeal, they're just not for me.

I got one of those frosty snowman ice machine things too. I'd have used it more if it wasn't rubbish and actually worked.

As for OP, get her something off her list and something she hasn't asked for but you think she'd like, but don't make the thing you choose for her a big expensive gift in case she doesn't like it as much as you think, and it ends up being the thing left in the cupboard.

I think Hampers are great for some people and some people like my Mum love them as they don't enjoy upwrapping lots of presents but I would think for an 8 year old unwrapping the presents is half the fun :)

My 8 year old would be getting a christmas stocking with 'goodies' in- some good , some rubbish but enjoyed, not a hamper which is an adult gift.

Hampers are popular because they tend to look more expensive than they actually are. I don't see them as an adult gift- we aren't talking about a grocery one as it depends on its contents. I have done one as one of my gifts to my DD at a slightly older age than the OP'S child, the year she started taking drama classes as the items in it were related to that. Some of the items were too big for her stocking, we don't do pillow cases here and I didn't separate them into bits in stocking and bits under tree presents as I wanted the drama theme to tie together. The OP hasn't come back and explained what she was thinking of putting in a hamper for her DD.

Ask for or buy yourself the grown up things because you're the grown up! As for your eight year old get her things off her list, not everything maybe but some of them.

    Why rush to grow up?

    I've been Money Tipped!
my DD is 8 and if she is after something that I think is a total waste of money I have tried to steer her away from it but usually with another toy that I think she will get the benefit of. Last year for her birthday she wanted a reborn doll (hugely expensive compared to plain old baby Annabell) and I was against buying it as I thought she might grow out of dolls quite soon. but I gave in and spent £100 on the doll which meant she didn't bother asking for anything else or a party that would have cost me loads - just had pizza at home with pals and she totally loves that doll. She is even asking Santa for some more clothes for her.

This year she is looking for some more lego and I will get her some clothes and accessories as she grows more into the latest fashion! but remembering she is still 8 and I wont be buying her toys for much longer. It's not as exciting watching them open clothes as it is a much longed for toy so I tend to be a sucker and give in, even if it does lie in a cupboard after
