Help Please - Missing Money with Money Plus Group

Hello All,

Hoping you can help me understand how to put pressure on and resolve an issue I've having with MPG.

Long story short - was in DMP with Churchwood for 5 years, last month they passed me to MPG, MPG wanted £100 in fees - I cancelled the plan two weeks ago after 1 payment (made on 3rd Sept).

Spoke to creditors directly - set up payment plan with Barclaycard directly, paid off RMA in full (£540) and I have the £2500 needed to clear my Ulsterbank debt sitting in my savings account (my OH gave me the money).

Now.... I made a payment to MPG as stated on the 3rd. They where supposed to make the Sept agreed payment to Ulsterbank on two accounts on the 4th Sept (which they have confirmed they did). Problem is..... they paid the money into the wrong bank account and sort code - the sort code they gave was for a Natwest Bank account (UB confirmed it was not their account details).

I've literally spent all week ringing back and forth between the two - problem is , the balance I hold to clear my debt with Ulsterbank is only the right amount if i minus the payments I was supposed to have made in September (which technically I did!!!). And I can't pay the balance until this money turns up as UB will not accept any partial payments or direct payments from myself unless it is for the full amount.

The MPG have been useless - they are liaising with their finance team to try and get the money back - but they can't tell me when this will be and how long I'll have to wait.

I'm now concerned as it is the 23rd Sept and so far I have not made any payments on these two accounts for the Month of September. In 1 week , I will officially have "broken" my DMP agreement (even though technically it would be finishing anyways with me paying the balance in full) and I'm worried they will start lumping interest and charges onto my account for late payments

I have told the MPG that any charges I incur they will be fully liable for - their suggestion was "just pay the balance with UB and we'll give you the money when we can pull it back", but this is not good enough. A) I don't have an extra £300 to put on top of the £2500 I do have and b) They screwed up!

How much power do I have here? I was considering ringing today and telling them they have 48 hours to refund the money back to me but I don't know what I can say to really make them take notice... is there anyone I can make a compliant to etc that would make them take notice?

I'm worried I've finally gotten myself to a really good place financially - really almost debt free , just at the last hurdle and because of their massive error - I will be set back 10 paces again!

So frustrating!

Any advice?

  • UB should accept money from you.....

I would send them a cheque for the partial amount with a covering letter.

  • They won't at all.

They flat out refused - they said they can only accept part payments if they are from a 3rd party company acting on my behalf and told me to contact stepchange etc.

Waste of time when I am so close to closing the balance.....
