debt grant forms- what to put to support a claim?

British Gas, Southern Water, both have hardship funds, to help customers (not just theirs), who have fallen on hard times..
Time to act.
Looking through the application forms, I am at a loss what to put when it asks 'how a grant will help me', apart from relieving the stress of accruing bills (while out of work), etc..
Anybody done (and received) help from one of these? I would appreciate some handy phrases to borrow!
Brief background- single person, long term resident in council flat.
No assets, or savings left.
Have been out of work for some time, patchy work history for past few years (health, lack of relevant jobs).. Doing college courses, to update skills.
Main debts- credit card, and utilities. making nominal payments, while on JSA.
Struggling to meet all of these, AND eat healthily. Have been selling unwanted tat, from the home.

Although I can't offer any advice I am curious about this too. I came across the grants by pure chance and in all the time I have been struggling not once was the scheme mentioned to me.
Like you I am unsure what to write and my local CAB are useless so pointless going there. I have already rung and they had no idea what I was talking about. So they are ruled out.Don’t put it down - put it away!
