advice please.

Hi all, ive had some great advice in here so far and cant thank you all enough. I could use some more advice if possible. Ive just started work, however iv'e been informed that my new employer wont pay my first wage until mid next month. I just wanted to know can I still claim jsa until my first wage as I have very little money and its going to be impossible to get over till i get payed. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

I think some form of support is available depending on how long you have been on JSA. The only way to find out for sure is to call the JSA office you signed at.
Alternatively, work out the minimum you need to get through to pay day and ask your new employer if it's possible to get an advance.
  • You should have got JSA up until the day before you start work.
Why did you not ask the Jobcentre hey what else is available?

Don't do anything else until your employer confirms payday by the actual first pay out, having spent the day worrying how to approach payday moving on by 5 days as the new lot have no idea, as I've stupidly relied on credit a little, though I've also been to Cash Converters to raise money who were more then happy to help as I didn't have the luxury of asking the Jobcentre so never let the golden opportunity pass you by.

I would suggest speaking to the new employer seeing if you can get holiday or reduced hours if they can't sub you, whilst I'm not sure if this gets your ticket marked, sometimes you have to lose the care.

If I could I'd be up there asking for the different shifts that were cheaper to get in, things like this, if only I'd thought more before I started so mad at myself, these things are sure sent to try us.
  • You can get JSA until the day you start work. Depending on how many hours you work you could maybe get something, but if you're doing over 16 hours you can't claim JSA.

There may be other things to help you out, it depends on your exact situation. For many, all that can be done is asking for an advance on wages.

Job Centre used to give a bonus for finding work but they stopped that a while back.
