Sorry to burst your bubble. We are producing less yet paying ourselves more. Which means the UK is even less competitive. More so for sweatshop jobs. The average French worker produces in 4 days what takes the UK worker 5 days.

I would add the caveat that companies such as Nissan are an exception.

Working more hours for less GDP output is what I mean

The grain harvest depends on the weather. Oil and gas output varies according to whether rigs are closed for maintenance. GDP is a constantly revised number. That in many respects has little to do with hours spent.

Probably not, but it's this government policy to generate a sweatshop economy, we are working more for less as shown in the low productivity figures.

again given its so dreadful here it's a wonder all these Poles and others specifically want to come here and build their lives. Surely there are many better destinations.

If you listen to the various radio phones ins as I do, lots of Northern callers are specifying a big change up there with expanding enterprise.

Economists are too far removed and lofty to spot such changes.

We used to have some very productive individuals who generated huge amounts of GDP on their own, so we drummed them out of town. They were called bankers. We replaced them with loads of people who poured lattes and washed cars.
    I think....

Not forgetting the letting of property illegally. Or paid people in cash and therefore off the radar.

    Nonsense.

Actual hours worked per worker in May-Jul 2015 was 32.0 hours. It's been 32 point something hours since 1999. If anything hours worked per worker are declining.
