I am self employed and have a personal and a business account with nat west. A few days after I was made bankrupt the personal account was frozen but not the business one. For about a week the business one was still open, I meant to take out some money in case it was closed but didn't. I tried to buy something online on Saturday night and realised that the business account appeared to be frozen. No account showing when looking at my account online.

I called the bank previously about my personal account and was told that the OR had to send them a letter saying she had no interest in my account.

My first interview with the OR is in 1 week. I only have £40 cash on me which won't last me the week in terms of getting to work and buying food. I will be calling the OR on Monday morning. Can my bank accounts be unfrozen before my interview?

I have £200 in personal account and £500 in business account. Also if the accounts end up being closed will I lose the money that is in the accounts? I don't have an overdraft and don't owe the bank any money.for

Yes. If the OR contacts the bank's Bankruptcy unit, they can unfreeze the account for you.

Natwest converted my "normal" current account into a Basic one, but I have a feeling that Natwest may not allow you to keep your business account (although my guess is they may be able to make exceptions at Branch level)

    Do keep us updated.

Natwest do/did not normally unfreeze any sort of account, as they have a very adversarial approach to BRs.

That may have changed due to legislative changes and requirement to provide basic account access due to come in soon, but NW have always been particularly NastyWest, so please be cautious.

Thanks for replying. I thought I might have to have my personal account changed to a basic one.

I'll check with my branch to see if they will let me keep the business account open. It's not a problem if I have to close my business account but I would like a separate account for the payments I get my work and for things I pay for my business plus I have credit/debit card machine for people to pay me. I've got a metro account so hopefully I can use that instead.
