I just wanted to weigh in here, whilst financially bankruptcy may be or may have been the best option, certain employments can be affected negatively by bankruptcy.

I am what they call an allied health professional, and bankruptcy would prevent me from taking some senior roles within my profession. I also looked into a professional role on a committee and found that even being on the DMP would prevent me from taking up office, if they eve,r found out, but I wouldn't be able to live with the risk that they might.

I understand some financial professions have similar issue, so always check before you make a move to bankruptcy.
Debt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

Hopefully they defaulted you 4 years ago, otherwise you still have a long dark road ahead.

Still have another 3 long years of darkness ahead of me unfortunately, as still on my DMP until 2018.. :(

But hopefully the light of the tunnel will come at some point..

No matter what you think and what others say, bankruptcy's for life but a DMP's just for Xmas (usually Xmas 2020).... once you've paid everything off that's it. With a bankruptcy, there's always some future instance/form/application that asks and you get a knock back because you said YES.
