Generally the consensus is they lose interest in you once the application goes in which leads to problems.
My belief is that they are overworked and can't handle it.
You might get luck and get a good contact thoughI am a Mortgage Adviser

I deal with them on a daily basis and i think it is a similar situation to dealing with a solicitor(stereotypes). Basically I reckon their knowledge /experience must be quite good due to the number of people working for them however as others have said you are another person on the phone to them and as such unless you are ringing regularly for updates to chase them do no expect them to be chasing too hard.
I have spoken to some brokers from Land C and they are just as good as the best ,problem comes when your dealing with their admins, their case managers are better.
I once had an L and C broker who went to a board member to get a decision overturned. But then you may also get someone who dont care.0 -
They were brilliant. We've used them twice, once for the initial mortgage and once to remortgage. Both times they were brilliant and I couldn't fault them.
The first time, as FTB we asked loads of tedious/ stupid questions, as you do, and they couldn't have been more helpful.
The second time we had a very particular set of circumstances which made remortgaging hard but they found us a product better than our existing ones. Both times they completed their side of things with in 4 - 6 weeks.
We will use them again next year when we can remortgage again.
We've recommended them to several friends, who have used them and none have had any issues.0 -
We used L&C for a previous mortgage (based on their recommendation on this site) and it all went very smoothly. We went back to them to discuss getting an AIP for a move and the response was poor, slow response, multiple calls to chase up didn't provide the information they were supposed to.
So I'd say betmunch is right, a lot is down to which advisor you get.
That said, I also spoke to a local independent and that was a really poor experience, so bad service isn't just the preserve of L&C.0 -
Posts on the forum over the years would suggest that they are perfectly fine on clean applications that have no issues. However, when things go wrong, they appear to lose interest.
It is a good factory line process if that is what you want. Whereas a good local broker will give more hand holding and will be available to you more.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0
