Well, here's my update on ringing the CC companies:
BOS: Reduced my purchase balance (£1600) from 24.9% to 19.9%
I didn't realise I have 2 outstanding BT £1045 at 24.9% and £1135 at 3.9% for the life of the balance. So I have saved a bit on purchases. I will call again next month to get the other one altered as she said only 1 can be reduced at a time.
Mint: Absolute squat! Refused outright - in June I had gone about £2 over my balance so he said to call again in Oct and by that time my account status will be good again.
HSBC: Again, nothing. Not surprised as I have other loans and accounts with them.
Barclaycard: Woohoo - Dropped from 24.1% to 15.9% easy as pie. Unfortunately this is one of our smallest debts but every little helps!
Will try Egg now, fingers crossed. Then when OH is home from work, he can ring all of his.
Also cancelled Tiscali broadband and will switch to Sky. £17 down to £5.
Now we need to think of some ways to make a bit more money.
Thanks for your support everyone.0 -
Well done on the calls today :T :T :T Any idea how this affectg you on a monthly basis? or does it mean the payments are the same but you will pay less interest overall?? (Sorry, not very up on aprs etc:o )Mortgage Total: £50,720/ £75,000
Mortgage Overpayments Pot £15870 -
wow! you have done so well! good on you:j
now you have done it once, you will have no qualms trying it again and your OH will hopefully do as well too.
just thinking about that BOS set-up. is there one bill for the 2 amounts? if so, check the T+Cs - it may be that the balance with the lowest interest gets paid off first. just something to calculate into everything.
why not work out the monthly interest you have saved? us mse-ers love figures!0 -
Thanks - your comments make me so much prouder! Well done me. I will do some maths when OH has called - then I can hopefully report more savings. BOS said it would save me £80/year on the £1600 balance.
Benbenandme - yes I have fixed my payments so reducing the apr means more of my payment will go on the balance rather than interest.
EGG was a no go - booo hisss!0
