Hi,
I'm looking at getting solar panels installed. I live just outside Glasgow. Roof facing 260degrees 33 degree pitch. I have enough space for 14 panels 900mm x1600mm.
I have had a quote from hanergy for a 3.13kw system at around £5k. I'm looking to try an better this with higher power panels. Can anyone recommend companies to quote and also what panels and inverter I should be looking for?
Cheers

Is that for string inverter? Unless it's a posh named panel - looks a bit on higher side“Don't raise your voice, improve your argument." - Desmond Tutu
System 1 - 14 x 250W SunModule SW + Enphase ME215 microinverters (July 2015)
System 2 - 9.2 KWp + Enphase IQ7+ and IQ8AC (Feb 22 & Sep 24) + Givenergy AC Coupled inverter + 2 * 8.2KWh Battery (May 2022) + Mitsubishi 7.1 KW and 2* Daikin 2.5 KW A2A Heat Pump0 -
For £5k you should be looking at 14 x 285Wp panels giving a 3.99kWp system. Forget Hanergy and their low light enhancing performance panels, it's not necessary.
As for inverter, first things first....do you have ANY shading on your roof?(important), answer that and then we can help you with the inverter question.2 kWp SEbE , 2kWp SSW & 2.5kWp NWbW.....in sunny North Derbyshire17.7kWh Givenergy battery added(for the power hungry kids)0 -

Hiya and welcome. Is the 900mm a typo, did you mean 1000mm? Most panels are 1m by 1.6m approx.
The reason I ask is that 14x0.9x1.6 = 20m2. Hanergy panels are approx 1m2 (0.8x1.2m), so at 120Wp you'd only fit get 2.4kWp from 20 panels.
I think your best option is to follow T's advice and aim for 14x285Wp normal panels and try to haggle a good price nearer £5k.
Mart.Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 28kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

Thanks guys,
The panels are the std hanergy 0.9m panels. They quoted for installation on my main roof - west facing and the extension. 20 panels on the main roof and 4 on the extension giving 24 in total and 3.13kw. Both same pitch and orientation.
From the measurements I think I could fit a 4kw system on the main roof only. I realise I'm comparing apples to pears with thin film vs mono/poly. Given I live in west Scotland. Usually low light levels and a west facing roof is it best going hanergy or std panels with a larger output. 3.13 hanergy vs 4kw from std panels?

Hi guys, just one question. How much should I expect to pay for an array of eight solar panels making a 2kWp system?0

I have had the following quotes for Solar PV installation.
14 x JA Solar 285W Black mono crystaline with hot water controller, £6,025, giving a payback time of 7.9 years and return of 12.59%.
12 x Suntech 270W Black on Black with Optimmersion hot water controller, £5,066, giving a payback time of 8.2 years and a return of 12.14%.
12 x Benq 330W Black on Black with Optimmersion hot water controller, £7,050, giving a payback time of 9.4 years and a return of 10.66%.
Would appreciate your thoughts on these, plus any recommendations. Thanks.Thank you to everyone who has helped me MoneySave0 -
I'd say probably around £3k-£3500 for a 2kWp systemDafydd_911 wrote: »Hi guys, just one question. How much should I expect to pay for an array of eight solar panels making a 2kWp system?
I'm confused.....why would one quote for 14 panels and 2 more for only 12 panels, how big/small is your roof?I have had the following quotes for Solar PV installation.
