Any HR professionals out there?

Hello everyone,
Are there any HR people in Financial Services that can share their knowledge of references? (Particularly in London based companies)
Do references tend to be very basic - position held, start date, end date.
Or do they also include reason for leaving.
If I resign and state it is for personal reasons but I was in the middle of a disciplinary process pending a decision, will a reference state "disciplinary......" or just that I "resigned"?
Are references always taken up or do 'they' not tend to bother for 'older' candidates with a long history of experience in fin services?
Thanks

You do realise the disciplinary process can continue in your absence and a future reference may record this as a statement of fact.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -
Not in London nor the Financial Sector but our references would state something like 'resigned during disciplinary investigation'.
Depending on what the allegations are the employer may continue to a hearing/outcome and would then state something like ' resigned during disciplinary investigation which concluded that had the employee continued in post they would have been issued with written warning/dismissal with notice/dismissal with immediate effect'.0 -
It usually depends on the policy of the company you're leaving. My company will only provide basic details: job title, salary, start and end date. Other companies will answer all the questions that the new company are asking for. They may or may not state why you've left.
References are almost always taken - especially in financial services.
If I were you, I would say that your reasons for leaving were personal and leave it at that. It's still true - but it's not a lie. Just, whatever you do, don't lie. In an industry where credibility and honesty are important, it's not worth the risk.

KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -

Thanks. Any more HR people out there (preferably financial services) ?0 -
Are you (or do you intend to become) an approved person carrying out controlled functions? If so, the reference will be pretty detailed. Depending on what the disciplinary is for, your current employer might have to include details on the reference for the prospective new employer. You might also have problems demonstrating you are "fit and proper".0

Each employer is going to be different with regards to what reference they provide.0

Depends on the policy of the company you worked for, and also depends on how thorough the hiring company are (for example, a financial role would dig deep!)
I got sacked for gross misconduct once, but I didn't tell my new employers that. Luckily, when they asked for a reference, they only wanted to prove that i'd worked there for the dates I claimed.
however, If my new job was for some finance role (instead of loading trucks), I imagine that they would have found out the truth0
