Expenses Before BR

I know I'm about 1 month away from filing for BR. I have 2 questions that need answering:

1. Company expenses. I need to submit my company expenses for money that is owed to me for car fuel (originally paid by credit card). Do I do this before going BR and sit on the cheque, then pay it into a new bank account after BR, without this reserve/backup I would be out of a job. The other option is go BR and then submit my claim with my company and hope know one finds out.

2. I forgot this one as I typed the 1st one........I'll come back to it later....must be the red wine :D

Since you need this money for living expenses, or to fund future expenses allowing you to earn a living, I can't see a problem with cashing the cheque and withdrawing the funds prior to BR.

After all you need to retain these funds in order to continue to work, and in particular you will need them in cash since you won't have continuing access to a CC to pay them.

Claiming and paying the cheque in later could look a little dodgy as could claiming after, but that's just my opinion. It all depends on whether you have a reasonable way and time to access the funds prior to BR.

In the end the OR has to take a pragmatic view of these things, especially when funds are required to live.

Personally I would try your hardest to get the expenses claimed, paid, and withdrawn in cash prior to BR.

If you don't have a choice about paying the cheque in post BR, then I would make sure that you get your hands on the cheque before your BR date. I wouldn't try to put in the claim afterwards.

The OR is used to seeing people do things that are slightly dubious on the run up to BR, since most people are a little desperate by that point and are backed into a tight corner. As long as you are simply trying to live (and not taking the ****) they tend to turn a blind eye or give a small slap on the wrist.

Hope that makes sense, since I don't think there is really a definitely correct answer when you are in a difficult situation like this.

    I think I need some wine.:D
