Flowers for funeral - DFW style?

I have to buy some flowers for a funeral, and I have never done this before. I don't know the best way to go about this, or what information I need to give to the florist etc.?
Also I am very broke at the moment (!), so don't want to just pick out a florist from the Yellow Pages or something in case I end up paying over the odds.
Can anyone give me advice? The funeral is in the Henley/Reading area by the way.

I never buy funeral flowers. If I care about someone, I give them flowers while they can still enjoy them. Make a donation to charity instead.
Edit to add: Sorry if that sounds sharp - it's not meant to. It's just that when money is tight I think it needs to be put to the best use.Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0 -
I'd recommend going to a local garden centre instead of an interflora type place. My local garden centre do really nice baskets from just a tenner.

If you have to get flowers rather than being able to give a donation (I agree with newleaf) it might be worth looking at valueflora.com and then look for a voucher code on the code board to reduce the price.

We used our pigsback points to make a charity donation ratherb than getting flowers for DH brothers funeral. See if anyone you know does or knows someone who does flower aranging that might be able to help.Barclaycard 3800

i would say a donation in a card. when my mum died it was family flowers only, people also wanted to send me cards and flowers but i asked them to stick a couple of quid in the next charity tin that appealed to them. otherwise ask the family who is doing their flowers and go with them at least it will make sure they get there.'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0

Sorry to hear your news...Good advice above, however, if you are really wanting to send flowers you could purchase them online and use cashback sites such as quidco or rpoints or topcashback etc.. I use one of those sites when I purchase flowers as you can get good deals online and also cash back so it makes it a little cheaper.
Good luck xx0 -
Many thanks for all the above replies - some good ideas there. I would prefer to make a donation, but as it's close family I think I have to send flowers too. I will try valueflora - a good name!0

What about white roses? Seem to remember these are for rememberance and maybe find some in Mr Tesco's. (I lost both my parents within 10mths of each other) now 4 years on it isn't the expensive funeral flowers I remember but the beautiful white roses from Mr T's.:o and the "homemade" bunches that neighbours etc. brought along.Panda on My Shoulder
If you can make it cheaper do so. If it's not reduced, in Primark, off ebay or free I can't have it :rotfl:0 -
Blooms are excellent and you can get Quidco too.
Sorry for your loss, well done on maintaining your MSE ethic at this time. Many people would struggle to think about it at time like this.
Kind thoughts,
