I don't know where you get this idea from. My Dad died recently and had a insurance policy with the Co-operative. When the FD came to our house, my Mam told him it would have to be as low cost as possible, and the FD was happy to go through every option showing us the price range, even recommending a local florist who could do the flowers for £30 (and I did the catering). No hard sell at all.0
