Advice needed quick .

Hi everyone,

I'm new here, just signed up this morning. Just need some quick advice if possible. I'm attending a training course next week and at the end of it, I have a job. The thing is, I was wondering if I can still sign on for my JSA before the job starts. The reason I ask is because the job won't pay until I've been there for at least 2 weeks and I have literally 5p in my bank account and no food in. I also have to pay the CT or be taken to court due to a few missed payments. If anybody could share some advice I would be very gratful. Thanks .

  • Yes, you can sign on until the job starts, but you must show you're still looking for work in that time.

You can continue claiming JSA until you actually start the job and any JSA payment due will be released when you sign off. You may be able to ask for that final payment to be made as a Same Day Payment to provide money to cover you until your first pay comes through.
Depending on how long you have been on JSA there may be assistance available to tide you over until you receive your first pay.

I'm not sure but I think you are talking at cross purposes.

    The training is unpaid?

So not available or looking for work but still unpaid.

Can JSA be paid in those circumstances?

Also, speak to the Job Centre about a 'back to work' payment as they can give you something called a Job Grant if you've been unemployed for a certain amount of time.

Not normally, no. The OP could ask for authorisation to do the training, it would be up to the advisor - they may allow it on the basis it should lead to a job.

Doesn't exist any longer. There is a discretionary fund that may help with travel costs.
