It depends on the actions of the bank or financial company.

For instance, we had loans with Lloyds TSB, when we entered our DMP Lloyds placed the loans in their collections department. Every 6 months a new agreement was made to pay a set amount. As it was with collections it was not defaulted.

After 4 years they moved it from collections and into a debit collecting agency and at that point it defaulted. So in theory (or though unlikely to happen) you can have a DMP and not default...

At the time I didn't question this, but have recently and they have back dated the default, payed back the interest (deducted from the outstanding balance) which means the default is off the credit score.

If you complain what's the worst they can do, disagree and the default stays as is.

Great news - I managed to get a 'late payment' default removed, my credit rating went from 366 v - poor to 788 - fair overnight.
I paid the debt off and cried down the phone. It took 3 months of them saying they will do it to actually do it.

We meet with the mortgage advisor tomorrow.
  • I am on a dmp (only got £360 left to pay:j) but Barclaycard never ever actually default me. They were the only creditor who didn't. Instead they placed various other markers on my file. BB (sustained arrears) and AR (arrangement to pay). In 2011 they sold the debt to link Financial who continued with the BB markers until the debt was eventually paid off in 2014. Is it worth trying to get Barclaycard to change these markers to a default as all my other defaults have now dissapeared from my credit file yet these are on there i presume until 2020?
