toothsmith-please could i have some help

Hi...I don't know where to start. I only have 1 filling and have had no probs up until now where my teeth feel..well, wierd. You know that feeling when you first wake up before they have settled? well in the past 2 weeks they feel really odd, they feel loose even though they arent when i try to wobble them . it's scaring me to death. they arent red or inflamed or bleed when i floss but i've noticed the floss now goes down further than it used to. this all started when one of my top teeth felt 'wierd' and i was so scared it was going to break i stopped chewing on my front teeth. now it feels like they arent my own. im flossing and brushing like mad, started using an irrigator and corsodyl just in case..i honestly am petrified.

my questions are these: which is the best, gengigel or corsodyl?
do you think they feel odd because i haven't chewed on them for so long? the best way i can describe it is it feels the same as when i had my fixed braces off..just 'odd' like they need to settle. Again, i have no bleeding. i have some gum recession which has not got worse since 1999 (bad heigene when i had braces)
a visit to the dentist will end up with me being hospitalised again (i have doctors reports to prove this, i swear i am not lying)
It's taken a lot for me to admit to this so please don't say i am a wimp...the only way i could go to a dentist is if i was under a general. Do they do this on nhs, or could i pay for it as an extra?

It's not the pain that bothers me, im too embarrassed to go into it. Please, any non judgemental advice would be great. My teeth look fine...they just feel..odd:eek:

Toothsmith said in another thread that he is away on hols for 4 days this week. Hopefully another dentist (there are a few who hang out on this board) will be able to help you.

    Good luck with your problems

Couldn't you get a dentist to just look at them and have a chat without treating anything? Hopefully you'd be reassured that nothing is wrong and at least you'd know if something was wrong and that'd stop your mind imagining all kinds of things. You'd be also able to talk about how it feels and what might be causing it, maybe medication could be causing the strange feeling?

I hope that you sort it out soon!

thanks...but without going into it its just even if a dentist looks at them...it's so hard!...im just hoping they feel like this as a few months back i flossed one tooth and it felt so strange (maybe i dislodged a bit of crud?) that i didnt dare floss for a month, then they felt odder and odder and then i didn't dare chew with them..so im really hoping they feel so strange from not being used? i just got the courage to floss now without having a panic attack (!) and nothing is bleeding or receding but the floss is going down a bit more than it should, i just hope they tighten now im doing it religiously :S

would hynotherapy be an option for you, just so someone can have a peek?

My bf saw a hypnotherapist and she was happy to come to my house, I know dentists also do callouts often for older patients in normal circumstances. Maybe you can work with these professionals to find a way of getting them checked?

This sounds really frightening for you, so I hope you can get to the bottom of this very quick so you can get some peace of mind.

I know you don't want to go into too much detail and I totally respect that so please don't answer this if you don't want to but my question was what do you think is happening or is going to happen to your teeth?

Please look at this forum http://www.dentalfearcentral.org/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl

You're not a wimp and you're certainly not unusual. There are a lot of people on the Dental Phobia forum who have successfully overcome their phobia. I'm one of them! Even if you can't face a dentist looking at you there is lots of help available on the site by way of support. I can guarantee that you won't feel so 'wimpy' when you read some of their stories. Good luck. I returned to the dentist after a 10 year gap because my teeth felt weird. Turns out all I need is 2 30 minute sessions for deep cleaning - first one tomorrow...;)

i can totally understand how you are feeling. i went through something similar myself not so long ago. the best advice is to go and see a dentist. my dr was fantastic and got me reffered to the hospital dentists which specialise in very nervous patients. they were brilliant with me. the first visit they didnt even touch me just listened to my simptoms and had a little look - without any poking tools!
At the moment i bet you are getting overly anxous about things and every sensation in your mouth is making you paniky. i was the same. i couldnt leave my teeth alone. i kept poking and proding at them and they were constantly on my mind.
i wish you luck and i hope you see someone that can help you.

Pumpa, you admit that you dont have a dental phobia, so I dont think your worries really are dental. You seem convinced that you teeth really are relatively healthy, so is it possible that your worries are more deep seated than that? No need to verify this, but it probably would be more beneficial for you if you spoke to your CPN about your fears. We all have strange feelings in our teeth at some points so you're not odd in that respect, but these things usually settle after a while. If it hasn't settled by now, you must be worrying more than you should. You've taken the first step by discussing it here albeit we are all strangers, but be brave, go a step further, speak to someone involved with your Mental Health Team.

Wow thanks everyone, i thought I was going to get totally flamed for the orig post!...i did see my psych today...who offered to come with me to dentist! I can't face it at the minute though.
I did try hypnosis yes with a reputable person but it didn't work at all, in fact he refunded my money. He said i was just too anxious for it to work, which my psych also agrees with. Valium or whatever they give these days has no effect on me either so that would be no good. Thanks all for being so nice. I did come across that forum and read it but most people there seem scared of the drill or pain, which isn't my fear, but it was an interesting read.
Mattsue could I pm you? Your situation seemed similar to mine? :)
