Getting Back “Over Tax”

Hi Guys
Started a new job last month and received a sign on bonus. This caused my pay in August to be high, and I got heavily taxed on it.
I assumed I would get this “over tax” back in my September pay. But on checking my payslip today, I see I have not received it back. Just a normal salary.
Does this mean, I should question my HR about this? Or ask the HMRC directly?
Any ideas? Or anyone been through this before?

How much tax did you pay in september, compared to July ?
i assume the salary is the same each month usually ?
The money wont come back to you in your salary, that will remain the same, it should come back in the amount of tax you pay. It may not all come back straight away however0 -

In order to give an answer to this you have to give details, any answer given without knowing the details can be no more than a guess.
From the P45 Part 1A everthing from sections 6 7 and 8 and confirm it has been given to new employer.
From any payslips received so far taxable gross tax paid tax code/basis week or month number or date paid taxable gross to date and tax paid to date.0 -

Just to add a bit of detail as to why you need to give full details to understand what is happening.
There are several possibilities that can explain this....
Often people feel they have paid to much tax when they get a higher than usual one off payment but in reality it is just that they have paid tax on all of the extra whereas their normal salary gets a tax allowance set against it before tax is deducted. In this case would be no adjustment.
The extra may have taken you into a higher tax bracket, if that is the case may be some adjustment in following weeks but without figures you cannot say how much.
Your new salary may have taken you into a higher tax bracket so no adjustment.
There may be an overlap in tax allowances between your old job and new job meaning no tax allowance for this payment; again no adjustment for this would be due.
May be an error of some sort, without details cannot tell if you need to sort with employer or HMRC.
So without details there can be no reliable advice.0
