Incorrect Tax code

I have notified the tax office that my tax code is incorrect and I have had an reply saying that they have updated their records and notified my employer, however my tax code has been wrong for a number of years so do I need to contact them again to get them to look in the overpaying of tax or will they have looked at that at the same time?

sorry but I am clueless with tax as the other half used to take care of it all

Your back years may not have been checked so it would be as well if you look through your P60s.
