My nephew lives in the Republic and I live in the North. Recently he took my new computer with him and set it up for me in his own house in the Republic. I now notice that a lot of the sites that Google throw up at me end in .ie rather than .uk or .com. The Republic seems to have become the default
I'm assuming this has something to do with regional settings and while there is no big issue is there anyway I can reset the default to the UK

Try clearing the history. If still no joy, uninstall the browser and reinstall.0

What browser are you using?
Google will default to your location based on your IP address unless you tell it otherwise.0 -
what windows version ? (assuming windows of course)0

Operating Windows 10
Using both Chrome and IE 10 but might download Firefox as it was my browser of choice on my old laptop0 -
Won't make any difference what brower you're using to be honest. If your IP address is from the Republic, certain sites will direct you to the Republic.
The only solution would be to use a VPN/proxy server to make it appear like you're in the UK.0 -

Thought I'd try this and saw that even though I'm in NI North West it gave my location as Preston Uk. So I clicked the button to set to exact location and it still came up as PrestonI started out with nothing......And still have most of it left:p0 -
Location is now often set based on your wifi network, devices with GPS (phones, tablets etc) report the wifi network and location to Apple/Google/Microsoft etc... which is more accurate than the IP method. Assuming you are using wifi you could try changing the name of your network.0
