DMP answers to questions and support needed

Hi all, me again feeling very low .Have sent off dmp forms and 1st lot of money to commence payments to creditors, confessed to oh about my debt problem, dealt with 1st creditor last sat on phone, been to the doctors got pills to help me sleep...all in less than a week and now I feel drained, numb exhusted but most of all waiting for the phone to ring or should I say dreading the phone ringing. How long does it all take to settle down when starting the dmp, how long before you can start breathing a little easier.I know each case and person is different but I really need some reassurance and other peoples opinions on this, my dmp people are fantastic and very understanding but in this early stage I would like to know what to expect.I know what to say if the creditors ring up but I feel so sick inside .sorry if i am boring but any ones help and feelings on their situations would perhaps help me through:eek:

First thing I would do is change my number you can tell family and friends you were getting weird calls and contact debts via mail which is a lot better getting things in writing.

It can take a couple of months for everything to calm down and feel like you are getting somewhere but it s much better than not dealing with things.
  • PoptartWell done for getting the crap part out of the way. That is the first step to getting back on track. I was you back in November and I just came to the end of my energy reserves worrying about it all until I spoke to PayPlan and the rest they say is history. Sending off the token payments was great and listening to the response of the people on the other end of the phone was even better, . "You want to pay just £5..is that right ?" Oh Yeeees I said and they took it and that was that. BUT The calls got so bad that I rang BT one night, explained the problem that we were receiving calls all hours of the day and mostly and night and they gave me a new number there and then taht is now ex-directory and didn't cost me a penny. By doing that It took so much pressure off. We were getting calls even though I asked them to communicate via post, so that was the last straw. Just imagine, the only calls you get are from people you WANT to sepak to. Took about a month for PayPlan to set everything up and we set up a new account with A&L ( they have been great) and we have not looked back. I couldn't take the relentless calls and when the postman came, I opened the post and put it all away in a file marked PayPlan that held ever statement etc. Honestly, I was able to breathe again and sleep again. I went to the doctors and blurted out everything and I did take tablets but purely as I felt I was on a sinking ship. From the day that I spoke to Payplan it all became clearer and the worry washed away gradually with each creditor that agreed and they all did. So don't worry, you are getting it sorted and you will be a better person for it too. Hang on in there and take comfort from us all that have been or are going through what you are. YOU ARE NOT ALONE !S x

thankyou all so far, I cannot change my number, impossibility,I have blocked witheld numbers but that will not stop all I know , i got caller display also,I am ok when I am on my own but its when oh and 2 adult sons are at home i worry, like living on a knife edge.I dont care about post, dmp people have put on my file not to ring me also due to my circumstances and health but I still live in fearr and its only week one.I had a scrape in my car a few weeks ago 1st time in 18yrs due to all the stress .I am lucky I work in a school so i am off for the 6 weeks hols right now or I dont know how i would manage, but back in 2 weeks.will let you know how it all goes, I just feel better posting on here, you are all so nice. love ya
  • You will get phone calls, there is not avoiding that but my advice is be firm.

When they say "you need to make a payment." you say " no i dont, you have recieved letters from CCCCs or PayPlan(whoever you are with) and they are now dealing with my account." they will probably say "oh but we only deal with the account holder which is you" and you say" very well but i am not apying you anything as the letter explains." if you are firm they will back down. if it gets bad say you will only deal with them by post and hang up - keep doing until they get the message.

Worst ones for us were morgan stanley who were polite but eventually i spoke to a manager and then the calls stopped and Abbey National who were very nice but didnt read the notes on teh account so OH was getting calls ever few hours for a week - he was polite but firm and evebtually they apologised and stopped calling.

This is an unavoidable part of the DMP process but usually only lasts a month or so and then stops completely. Just think of it as a small price to pay for eventually being debt free.

If you start to feel down just look out your window at people passing you in teh street and think - they probably have debt and arent dealing with it - i am proud to be dealing with mine.

    Good luck xx;)
