Electric steamers

Any advice on electric steamers would be appreciated. If you have one, do you use it regularly or is it in the back of the cupboard?

Are we talking food steamers here?

If so I have had one for about 5 and a half years. It's not used all the time but say once a fortnight. It's all cracked and needs replacing now, so I would say they are a bit rubbish as it hasn't lasted very long. Probably best to get a metal one for your hob.

Oh of course, I never thought to put food steamer, forgot there is another sort :o

Thank you for the information. I might stick with the metal kind.

Its in health and beauty so you could have meant a facial steamer. :D

I have never used a food steamer but I have a friend that swears by it and hates their food especially vegetables cooked any other way.

if you do get one then wait for a deal on tefal they are brilliant.

They are great as they turn off rather than boil dry and means you don't have to stand over a hob watching a pan.

Make sure you get one with removable bottoms ;) on the baskets makes it easier to clean and I have even cooked a whole chicken in one.

You can do you eggs in them as well boiled or poached in a fashion. Even make a delish chocolate cake in it as well.

In the winter I use my about 4/5 times a week for steaming veggies.

Mine gets used a few times a week, far better way to do veg & fish and probably one of the few "gadgets" which I can genuinely say was worth every penny (even though I got it free).
