employer cancelling leave question

Morning all.
Just wondered if anyone can advise on an issues that relates to annual leave. This is not me but this is the information provided.
Can an employer cancel planned leave that was booked 2 months in advance?
The person involved book leave 2 months ago which was agreed and signed off. The were due to be off this week but was told on Friday last week they they would be cancelling the leave and that they had to come go into work.
They have stated that they would also lose thus leave so there for should be paid.
I'm underestimate the impression that the notice given for this is to short o cancel.
Also that the person involved would have to agree to the leave being cancelled. There for if they are in work this week it would be double pay to as they are working there leave so to speak.
If not the time should be added back to there available leave balance.
Ghe next thing is if the person was to refuse to go in as it was approved leave can disaplinary action be taken.

Is the person this happened to a member of a union?
How long have they worked there? All your base are belong to us.0 -
No they are not in a union
And I believe they started in Feb this year.
There are a few things I believe sound off with this place and I have advised to start keeping a long of what's happen's that seems out of place.0 -
The employer can cancel booked leave but must give the same amount of notice as the length of the leave.

I would expect that had the person simply taken the leave anyway that any disciplinary action proposed by the employer would automatically have been unfair. Unfortunately if they've only been in the job since February there's a good chance that in the not-too-distant future they might well have found themselves out of a job for some other reason.
I doubt if any of your alternatives would automatically apply, although if the employer agreed to them that could be OK.0 -
Thanks. Will no more this Evington when I speak with them.0

The leave should be added back to their allowance though as they have not taken it, so they will not lose these days.0
