Jobseeking without JSA?

Hi, I'm 18 years old and looking for work, and am about to begin volunteering in hopes of being able to get a job in January after dozens of unsuccessful applications.

Anyway,I have too many savings so am not eligible for job seeker's allowance. Are there any formalities I need to do, anyway, regardless of the fact I know I'm not eligible for JSA (or any other benefits)?

are you £ 16 000 over? if under , you should be able to get a reduced rate of JSA.
You can pay your own national insurance and see if your can still arrange an interview with an advisor at the job centre. Phone you local JC to find out. Also you could check with your council for job fairs or if they offer a free careers advisor service, i know mine does, i found out at my library.
  • I'd also say if you have a local royal mail, they are quite easy temp jobs around november, for christmas, i know it was very easy when i got mine, i barely had an interview.

You should be able to still sign on and get your national insurance paid.

If he signs on won't he be expected to fulfil the full job search package even though they won't be paying him? At 18 he has plenty of years to build up his NI contributions. He'll probably have to work until he's 80 to get a pension! :-(
