Interview presentation - help needed

Hi all
I've got an interview assessment day coming up, and one of the tasks is a 5 minute presentation, then 5 minutes of questions from the assessors. It'll be face to face with maybe 2 assessors, no Powerpoint. There'll be a flip chart available for anyone who wants to use that. I won't bother with using the flip chart.
The presentation will be-
'Sell us something you are familiar with. It can be a hobby, product, a pen, whatever you want to choose.
You must sell to the assessors your chosen item/product or concept. The assessors will be looking for your passion, influencing and persuasion skills.'
I really can't think of a topic . What sort of thing are they expecting me to talk about? What sort of thing do people normally do for one of these presentations? I don't really have any hobbies that I would call interesting enough for a presentation. Any ideas more than welcome

What is your passion?
They are not expecting you to talk about anything in particular, they are assessing your ability to communicate and engage.
Be interesting and articulate and you're ¾ of the way there.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -

It doesn't matter too hoots what you're selling, they don't care if it's something they're interested in or not, what matters is how you come across, what sort of style you have, whether you can stand up for 5 minutes and talk coherently etc.
Are you sure you can't come up with anything? If you are into cookery you could sell a knife/set of knives/cookery book/party plan etc. If you're into reading you could sell a Kindle, or a bookcase.
Anything you think you could make vaguely interesting and talk for 5 minutes about.
Describe the product, what does it do? What benefit does it bring to the customer? What makes it unique? Why should they buy it from you? What customisation is available? ie can you sell them the pens in black and not blue or in boxes of 50? Is it customisable? You want to show off you selling skills.

How much can I save in 2012 challenge

Why not sell them the concept of moneysaving? The forum is full of thousands upon thousands of ideas of how to moneysave, so you can do all your research on here.
You could subdivide it into 5 areas like home/transport/shopping/holidays/lifestyle, and give each of the subheadings one minute. It won't be anywhere near long enough, but your enthusiasm for the topic will shine through. Give good examples from your own personal experience.
Memorise the names of some good websites, eg this one, Which?, mysupermarket etc and you can refer to these when they ask you the questions.
I could bang on for hours about how much I've saved by reducing costs. At the moment, I reckon I am saving the equivalent of £38 a day, every day. 365/year, by the cumulative savings I have made across all areas, ranging from downsizing my home all the way down to changing which teabags I use. That's equivalent to almost £14k a year. The teabag thing would make anyone laugh but it all adds up.
Just an idea.
Good luck with your presentation. x“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”0 -
what sector of work is this interview for? I could assume, but we've all heard the saying concerning that,0

Damn! Rather you than me! I struggle to spell my own name in a job interview setting!

Good luck0 -
Just watch any of the TV shopping channels for 5 minutes, they can spend whole hours talking about complete tat.
Which is probably what you'll be expected to do in the job anyway.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

+1. If you dread the interview then getting the job will be no better. Exactly as last poster has said
Worst case, imagine your at the interview, the interviewer has just told you, you have 5 minutes to prepare, before they step back into the room. (I've always preferred these types of interviews where they don't tell you till last minute if truth were known.)0 -
They're not looking at what you're saying, just how you're saying it, so keep what it is as simple as possible.
Case in point is a mate of mine at uni went for a job and had to make a website and give a presentation. His website was about toast. Point was, the site looked great and he presented well, so he got the job.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
