    There's a lot to be said for getting rich slowly, remember that pension is no longer a lifetime proposition and the manner that you can draw from it has increased. So, it's not just one big pot that's useful to bear in mind. Take into account too, how big a part of your retirement planning the pension going to be.

    The default setting is to bulk out with equities early on, but that'll bring wild amplitudes - so, forget the theory that you should should fit in around what pension fund managers want you to do; instead, ask yourself - what will you be happy with? And a home sooner, is at least as important to your life, as a pension later.

    While I'm sure you mean well, it would honestly be mad not to pay into my pension. Compared to the cost to my net pay I get quadruple paid into my pension pot. Much more of an immediate impact than any investment decisions...
