Are you VAT registered?
If no, then no.
It may be worth asking the employer if they can buy this for you, however VAT is paid by an end user, and that is you in this situation.💙💛 💔0 -
Is it actually necessary? I.E. If you did not have it then the job could not be done at all? Or is it something that will make your job easier?
In the first case it is the employer's responsibility to provide. If it is the second then it is probably up to you to buy it, although you may be able to put together a case for the employer to buy it due to the saving in time, cost etc.
And has been said, if the employer buys it then it will fall within his VAT regime, if you buy it then the answer is no unless you are VAT registered OR it falls within the exemptions for disability aids and the supplier has signed up to that systemThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. Vat - no
However if its an item you need to do your job then you may be able to claim it as an expense and receive tax relief in it. An obvious example of this is a tradesman like a brick layer or plumber who needs his "own" small tools as part of his trade kit. It has to be reasonable though - so a bag of small tools ( trowel, brush, PPE equipment) yes but a great big cement mixer - no as the employer should provide this level of equipment for PAYEStuck on the carousel in Disneyland's Fantasyland
