A few wedding questions on how to save on costs!! X

I don't think a photographer has been mentioned, if it has sorry!
But if paying for a photographer is not something you are willing/able to do but you do like the idea you could get someone just starting out.
When my husband first started out with wedding photography he had one problem, no wedding photos to show and no confidence to charge for the first wedding. He put up an ad offering free wedding photography so that he could fill his portfolio and get practice in this particular field.
This is a great way for both the new photographer and the newlyweds to get what they want0 -

Eeeek.
As a wedding photographer myself I'm totally biased of course, but... this is risky. Years down the line the photos are likely to be the only proper existing record of your day. You'll have your memories, but you can't pull those off the bookshelf and lose yourself in them!
Depends how important it is to you I guess, but personally I would advise that if you genuinely can't afford someone with experience and proven skill, and don't want to ask your friends and family to pitch in for one rather than give you other gifts, then at the very least I'd go with a photographically talented friend who doesn't mind spending the day working for you instead of enjoying themselves with you, rather than an inexperienced beginner who's willing to do it for not much, or even no money!
But like I say, I would say that0 -
One of the things I am really looking forward to after getting married is getting the photos framed and put up around the house like my grandparents. They had a hand full of snaps of their big day all around the house. No professional photographer, no wedding book, no massive bill..... and yet these photos are clear, fit for purpose and really are special and will always be treasured.
I think it really does depend on the individual and their requirements though.
Also with regard to the silver rings. We got ours off Amazon for £18.50 including postage. They have the relevant stamps (no green fingers) and are exactly what we wanted. If we want to upgrade in a few years we might but I quite like the idea of a simple, almost humble wedding band.
Strictly adhere to your budget and then be guided by preference. Hope that helps£6686 CC as of 02/03/2017
Goal to be Debt free by May 2017 and have savings of £10k by November 2017.....0 -

I do agree, it is risky. However if its no photographer or a beginner whose photos might not be that great then it's not much of a risk is it?
If you are not happy with the photos and the photog was free, oh well. But if they do get lovely photos then you get them for free
But, as all else, it just depends on the person I suppose.0 -
Thanks for the replies guys.. really helpful pretty much sorted now
food catering is for 80% , silver rings which we love are brought, dresses brought cheap in sale!, photographer was high priority on our list so that was sorted first with alot of our budget going to that! Decorations we are doing ourself just a dj to sort now, though thinking of just plugging in my own playlist in the sound system at venue, any thoughts on this? X
Ready for Frugal challenge 20160 -
Hey devonsaver, we're doing our own music. Our venue has a connection in a cupboard to their music system/speakers so we just sling the laptop in there
We're using iTunes as I think there's a way you can have the songs slide seamlessly into one another (I am leaving this to my OH!) but I'm sure Spotify premium would work fine too - you don't have to buy the songs then. Premium was £10 a month last time I had it.

Spotify Premium is great - you can get a much larger range of music than most people have in their own collections. However, I definitely recommend setting up a playlist (or several playlists for different times or moods) and downloading it for offline playing. You don't want to be dependent on the venue's internet connection to have music. Maybe also worth downloading the playlist to a mobile phone as well in case of any issues with the laptop.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -
we compiled most of our I pod play list from cd's we already had - we spent under £6 on I Tunes (£1 for our recessional music for leaving church and the rest on tracks we wanted from a CD that was missing from the case - but has been recently found!!) we had 2 playlists, a classical one for the dinner and a 60's/80's/90's one for after the meal. something for everyone except young bridesmaid but her Mum loved it!!Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0
