Thank you for all your suggestions. To answer a few questions, the problem only began about 6 months ago, quite suddenly. Everyone can taste the 'gone off' food. Food I have cooked myself seems to be fine, but its usually things like casseroles. Food from the supermarket tastes odd the first time we use it, and as I said in my first post, this is usually things like potato or wheat based products. The freezer is in an unheated utility room, however we bought the Beko freezer because it states that it works in cold rooms and garages. We have a freezer thermometer, and it is working at the suggested temperature. All of the food that was in the old freezer was thrown away. We live in an area with four major suermarkets about 10 minutes drive away, and we have tried all of them, its definately not the supermarkets. The only thing I haven't tried is changing the packaging.

The other point I have considered (although I can't quite believe it might be the issue) is that friends have pointed out that our lights sometimes dim and therefore that our electricity input might be varying slightly. This only happens for seconds, and has been the case for several years (we don't notice it anymore, but friends often say the lights have just dipped). I can't imagine how such slight variance in electricity would affect the performance of the freezer, but any ideas would be welcome..

    ... when you check it.
You need a min/max thermometer to check if it consistently working

Would it be possible to do a comparative tasting with a neighbour? Buy 3 packets of X. Cook one packet in your Oven immediately to taste what the fresh version is like. You then freeze one packet, your neighbour the other. Two weeks later cook both packets in your oven. Are they the same?

You could try it with a few different items, as long as your neighbour is willing, to get a range of comparisons.
